Are these perilous times? They are, but there is no need to fear. We can have peace in our hearts and peace in our homes. We can be an influence for good in this world, everyone of one. Gordon B. Hinckley

Family Preparations:

To start the new year right, it is probably time to recheck our Bug Out Bags. If you use a backpack are the straps frayed? Seams tight and sealed against water infiltration? Are grommets tight and not frayed? If these items are not up to snuff maybe it’s time to fix it or get something new if the pack can’t be fixed. If you use a bucket, is the handle free of cracks, is the bucket sound and not fragile? If left in the sun buckets do break down and need to be replaced? What about the weight you are carrying? What is missing? What condition is your Bug Out Bag in?

For the coming year here are some frugal living tips to consider:

  1. Buy less
  2. Make do
  3. DIY
  4. Make your own
  5. Repair
  6. Maintain what you have
  7. Repurpose reuse
  8. Ditch disposables
  9. Mend clothing
  10. Learn to sew
  11. Buy second hand
  12. Wear an apron
  13. Learn a handicraft
  14. Learn home remedies
  15. Clean with natural ingredients
  16. Wear a sweater
  17. Spend more time outside
  18. Wear clothes more than once
  19. Hang clothes to dry
  20. Batch baking
  21. Preserve as much as you can
  22. Forage
  23. Cook from scratch
  24. Don’t buy what you can make
  25. Learn to make soap
  26. Entertain yourself in useful cost free ways, gardening, sewing, woodwork, park, picnics, board games, read, etc
  27. Grow your own food
  28. Compost

Do your best in 2024! Be prepared, and learn to live frugally and become self-reliant. It is the best way of life there is. Is it easy? Absolutely not! But it is worth it! I promise you this!
